BREAKING NEWS
Puerto Rican Skaters Perform Exhibition for
El Heredero de Miguelito

Puerto Rican Figure Skating Champions Victoria Muniz and Andrew Huertas performed a special figure skating exhibition as part of a special presentation for Puerto Rican Hip-Hop Star Sensation Miguelito.  Miguelito was announcing distribution of his new music CD "El Heredero" (the Heir).  Miguelito is a 9-year old Puerto Rican Reguetón (Puerto Rican style hip-hop) singer who is very popular in Puerto Rico, Latin America and within the Hispanic community in the states.  Louis Huertas, Executive Director for Puerto Rican Figure Skating, said "(Miguelito) is a remarkable child, extremely articulate and mature for his own age, is a straight A student at a military academy."

The special performance was an invitation only affair that was organized by the Casiano Group.  In attendance were members of the local and international press, and island entertainment personalities San Juan's Mayor was even invited.  Daddy Yankee made a special presentation.  The underlying theme of the Heredero is that with work and effort, Puerto Rican youth can achieve everything they put their minds on.  As an example of this, the audience was treated to the skating of two Puerto Rican National champions, "who really know how to skate".

The presentation took place on Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Coliseum of Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot, where an NHL-size ice rink had been in operations for the month of December as part of their Christmas season program, and would host the visit of Stars on Ice the following weekend.  Victoria Muniz skated a short program to Scott And Fran's Paso Doble, from the movie "Strictly Ballroom".  Andrew Huertas performed a short program to "Strings and Beats / Village Attack" from the movie "Blood Diamond." After performing their short programs, and as requested by Miguelito, Victoria and Andrew improvised a two minute pair's program much to the delight of the audience.  Afterwards, the children and and all the young-at-heart got on the ice and skated for about an hour.  Victoria and Andrew skated with the crowd on the ice; encouraging and assisting them with their skating.  Maritza Casiano, president of Casiano Group, expressed the desire to have future visits to the island of the Puerto Rican champions to promote interest in the sport, and talked of the possibility to have them conduct skating workshops as well.

All in all, this was a most positive visit, and a great experience for our figure skaters.
