BREAKING NEWS
Diana Reina skates to 5th at Ontario Figure Skating Boutique Summer Skate 2009

Diana Reina skated her Short Program and found herself in 11th place in a field of 16 Junior skaters at the Central Ontario Figure Skating Boutique Summer Skate 2009. This event was sanctioned by Skate Canada.  Diana earned a Short Program score of 27.20 points.  Diana put her hand down on the Double Axel and fell on the Triple Salchow combination.  "Diana was disappointed but will come back tomorrow" said Coach Marina Zoueva who worked with Diana in Toronto. Diana's regular coach, Gary Clark, was not able to make this trip.

With a fresh night sleep and a good morning workout, Diana came back solidly in a clean Free Skate.  "Diana did much better with a rested body" said Marina Zoueva.  "Diana has been practicing hard and working on consistency" said her coach, Gary Clark.   Diana earned a 3rd place Free Skate score of 54.17 points.  This vaulted Diana up six spots to  an overall 5th place combined score of 81.37 points.

The medal results were: 1st Eri Nishimura; 2nd Maggie Mackinnon; and 3rd Elizabeth Liao (all from Canada).

This was a non-ISU calendar event.  However, many countries attended this event like any other developmental competition.  Other countries that participated at Ontario's Summer Skate include: Canada, USA, Japan, Holland, Mexico, and Turkey; as well as Puerto Rico.  In the past, Thornhill provided the setting for the Canadian venue for the North American Challenge Series between Canada and the USA.

Diana attended this developmental competition under the PRFSF's Campeonato Internacional Principiante (or Beginner International Competitions) program
