Puerto RicAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The National Championships were successfully completed on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Igloo in Mount Laurel, NJ.  Showing the great diversity of Federation skaters, we have almost an entirely new set of Champions (check out our Champions Page).

Senior Lady
The only skater to reclaim her title was National Lady Champion Victoria Muniz, fresh off of a super 17th place finish at the ISU Junior Worlds held in
Oberstdorf, Germany.  Victoria skated well at Junior Worlds.  She was part of a field of 52 Junior Lady skaters and only 25 qualified to compete in the Free Skates.  Victoria's task at Puerto Rican Nationals was complicated by the fact that she now had to prepare her Senior level Short Program and Free Skate.  This will be Victoria's last year to be able to compete internationally as a Junior.

Junior Men
Newcomer Andrew Huertas showed he has the right stuff by setting a Puerto Rican National Men's record of 112.44 points.  Andrew skated two very exciting routines showing great promise for the future with four (4) triples including a Triple Lutz in the Short Program.

Junior Ladies
Newcomer Alicia Bell successfully took on the challenge of moving up to the Junior level and competing with last year's Novice Champion, Jasmine Lopez.  Alicia's Short Program and Free Skate were marked with long flowing lines and Level 4 Spiral Sequences.  Jasmine was coming off a severe infection which kept her at home most of the previous week.  Jasmine's programs included several triples, but unfortunately, the infection just left Jasmine with too little energy.  Congratulations to both skaters for a fine Junior event.

Novice Ladies
Diana Reina set a personal Short Program record and Puerto Rican Novice Lady record for both the Short Program and Free Skate.  Diana
, last year's Novice Bronze Medalist, led by example with a flurry of Double Axels, Level 4 Spiral Sequences, and Level 3 and 4 Spins.  Newcomer Victoria Bell, this year's youngest competitor, regained her form after a third place Short Program to take second in the Free Skate and Novice Overall Scoring.  Victoria's programs were marked with high level 3 and 4 Spiral Sequences and Combinations Spins.  Arielle Caban, who was last year's Intermediate Champion, moved up to Novice with Level 3 Spirals and Combination Spins.
