The
National Championships were successfully completed on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the Igloo in Mount
Laurel, NJ.
Junior Man
Newcomer Andrew Huertas showed he has the right stuff by
setting a Puerto Rican National Men's record of 127
points. Andrew skated two very exciting
routines showing great promise for the future with four
(4)
triples including a Triple Lutz in both programs.
Junior Ladies
Diana Reina, last year's Novice Champion, moved up and
proved strong enough to win based on the strength of her
three Double Axels. Diana also tried a Triple Loop
in the Short Program and a Triple Salchow in the Free
Skate. Alicia Bell, last year's Junior Lady
Champion, had to settle with Silver. Alicia's Short Program and Free Skate were marked with
long flowing lines and Level 4 Spiral Sequences.
Coming off of a three year absence, Abigail Guerrero took the
Bronze.
Congratulations to all three
skaters for a fine Junior event.
Juvenile
Lady
Newcomer Jacqueline Garcia worked her way through her
Juvenile Free Skate to score Gold.
It has been four years since Puerto Rico had a Juvenile
skater. It was worth the wait to cheer for Jackie.
