Diana Reina skates to 9th at 2007 Warsaw Cup
Diana
Reina became
Puerto Rico's first Novice to skate at an ISU sanctioned calendar
event. Diana skated as a Novice Lady in the 2007
Warsaw Cup held in Warsaw, Poland on November 16 to 18,
2007. Diana skated her Short Program to the
'Masquerade Waltz' in an Austrian crystal yellow dress.
"Diana handled
herself so well," said her coach Annette Bowman.
She found herself in 12th place
in
a field of 40 skaters
at the end of the
Novice Ladies Short Program. Diana earned a Short Program score of 31.00 points.
This was her second best Short Program score.
"Diana came
back stronger in her Free Skate" added
Annette Bowman. "All in all this was a pretty good
showing for Diana especially when you consider that she
is just a month off of an injured hip flexor." Diana skated to 'Peer Gynt' in a
dress that she designed herself. Diana earned a
personal best Free Skate worth 54.89
points for an overall combined personal best of 85.89
points.
Diana was 7th in the Free Skate for an
overall ranking of 9th place.
"There were
so many talented skaters. I loved the whole
experience," said Diana Reina. "My Coach is Polish
and was able to show me around her
ancestral homeland.
I am so honored to be here and to be representing Puerto
Rico," she added. "It was really great to be
standing in the ice rink and seeing Puerto Rico's flag
hanging from the walls and my name on the marquis
representing Puerto Rico. I really appreciated my
own cheering section from my new Finnish and Norwegian friends." The entire
event featured over 100 figure skaters from a dozen different countries.
In the Novice
Ladies, the podium results were: 1st Isabelle Olsson SWE;
2nd Naomi de Simone ITA; and 3rd Ines Karvinen FIN.
Diana
attended this developmental competition under the
PRFSF's
Campeonato Internacional Principiante
(or Beginner International Competitions) program.
